Exercising in chilly weather is possible if you prefer to get fit in the great outdoors and you absolutely don’t want to have to go to the gym or work out at home. But if you are going to be working out in colder temperatures, you need to know how to stay warm and dry so you can prevent illness. Keep reading to learn a few easy ways that you can do just that.

Wear the Right Shoes
Whenever you are exercising in chilly weather, you want to take steps to keep your feet dry, and the best way to do that is by using sneakers that do not have a lot of mesh. If you can find shoes that are waterproof and do not have any mesh at all, that would be an even better choice, as they will keep the heat in and the cold and wetness out. In addition to wearing the right shoes, also wear socks that are designed to keep wetness at bay and keep the feet as warm as possible.

Dress Yourself in Layers
Another way to ensure that you will stay warm and dry while you are exercising in chilly weather is by dressing in layers. You should wear layers that will be easy to remove, just in case you end up getting too hot when your heart rate increases and you start to sweat. Stick with breathable, lightweight fabrics, as these materials will not restrict your movements, and you should make it a point to wear a water-resistant outer layer to protect your from snow and rain. In terms of how many layers you should wear, that will depend upon how intense your workout will be, as well as the temperature and weather for that day. Every ¼ inch of clothes creates a single layer of insulation.

Maintain Warmth in Your Extremities
When you are out in the cold, your body will end up moving more blood to the core rather than the extremities. This leaves your feet and hands more susceptible to frostbite. Therefore, you need to maintain warmth in the extremities by wearing warm socks and mittens or gloves. You can even carry portable chemical heat packs that will help keep your hands warm.

These are just a few of the easy ways that you can ensure that you will stay dry and warm whenever you decide to work out in chilly temperatures or wet conditions during the winter season.
